Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People goes straight to No. 1 on the New York Times Best Seller list for hardcovers, right on the heels of the novel’s publication in the US.

In Canada, Anxious People debuts at No. 3 on the Original Fiction List in daily newspaper Toronto Star.

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman is an Editors’ Pick for Amazon’s Best of September feature. The title will be displayed on a 65’ x 83’ corner billboard in NYC, outside Penn Station. The billboard is part of a new initiative highlighting select Editors’ Picks and Amazon chart titles during September. Anxious People will be the only title featured as a single face out.

Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People is officially the No. 1 trending novel among readers at Goodreads, a week before the novel’s publication in the US and Canada. This was announced in a newsletter that was sent out today to all Goodreads’ subscribers.

Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People has been handpicked by Goodreads to feature on their list of Big Books of Fall.

Goodreads is the world’s largest online resource for readers and book recommendations, with more than 90 million members. The Big Books of Fall list contains the community’s recommendations of the most highly awaited upcoming publications of this fall and winter.

The LibraryReads Steering Committee has selected Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People as a LibraryReads pick for September, thereby entering Backman into the LibraryReads Hall of Fame alongside authors like Jojo Moyes, Liane Moriarty, Isabel Allende and Lee Child. The Hall of Fame honors authors who have had three or more titles appear on the monthly list since 2013.

Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People, to be published on September 8 in the US, is the No. 1 pick on the Indie Next List for September, as chosen by US booksellers across the country. The announcement of Anxious People as the winning title was paired with a quote from bookseller Lisa Driban, Hockessin Book Shelf:

The highly anticipated series Beartown will premiere across all of HBO Europe during the fall of 2020. The five-part Swedish drama is based on the bestselling novel of the same name, written by internationally acclaimed author Fredrik Backman, who also serves as executive producer of the show.

The small town Beartown is slowly losing ground to the ever-encroaching trees surrounding it. The local hero and former hockey star Peter comes home to Beartown to build the junior team and secure the town’s future. Carrying the entire town’s hopes on their shoulders is a heavy burden for Beartown’s boys. When the team’s young star is accused of a horrible act, it leaves the town in chaos, leaving no resident unaffected.

Beartown explores the hopes that bring a small community together, the secrets that tear it apart, the courage it takes for an individual to go against the group and the consequences of how we raise our children.

The series is directed by Peter Grönlund, and written by Anders Weidemann, Antonia Pyk and Linn Gottfridsson. Filmlance, part of Endemol Shine Group, is producing. Starring in leading roles are Ulf Stenberg, Aliette Opheim, Tobias Zilliacus, Miriam Benthe and Oliver Dufaker. Executive producers are also Tor Jonasson and Sophie Smirnakos.

Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People lands the No. 7 spot on the official bestseller list for the month of May in Iceland. The novel was published on May 12.

Fredrik Backman has honorably been selected as a recipient of the Helsingborg medal – the author’s hometown’s most prestigious award which is bestowed upon individuals who have contributed greatly towards the city. Previous winners include some well-known actors, journalists and politicians amongst others.

The nominees for the 2020 Official Swedish Film Awards have now been announced and 438 Days, directed by Jesper Ganslandt, is nominated in six categories, including ‘Best Film’.

The nominees further include Quick, nominated in seven categories including ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’, and Britt-Marie Was Here in the categories of ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ and the Audience Award.

The winners will be announced at the award ceremony January 20.

The nominees for 2019’s Storytel Awards have been announced. Previously known as the Grand Audiobook Prize, the Storytel Awards have been handed out to the best audio books in Sweden since 2007. The awards are split into five categories: Suspense, Fiction, Nonfiction, YA, and Children’s books.

Among the nominees for the Suspense award are: Stefan Ahnhem’s X Ways to Die, Anne Holt’s A Grave for Two, Kristina Ohlsson’s To Him Who Knocks, Hjorth & Rosenfeldt’s A Higher Justice, Jo Nesbø’s Knife, and Anders Roslund’s Knock Knock.

The Fiction nominees include: Liza Marklund’s Black Pearl Farm, Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People, Simona Ahrnstedt’s Just a Little More, and Niklas Natt och Dag’s 1794.

Fans will be able to vote for their favorites till January 17, and the winners will be announced at a gala event on April 2.
